New Delhi: The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) organised awareness and cleanliness activities under the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign, focusing on post-Ganesh Visarjan cleanliness, responsible waste management and maintaining clean public spaces.
An awareness programme was held at a local Ganesh pandal, where participants were encouraged to use eco-friendly clay idols and avoid immersing Plaster of Paris idols and chemically coloured idols in drinking water tanks and natural water bodies.
The programme promoted the use of designated immersion sites and proper disposal of flowers, Puja Samagri, plastic, thermocol and other decorative waste. Participants were also sensitised about maintaining cleanliness at immersion sites, preventing littering and following safety precautions near water bodies.
The surroundings of the Ganesh pandal were subsequently cleaned, with waste collected and segregated for proper disposal. ICAR said the initiative highlighted the importance of community participation and collective responsibility in protecting water resources and keeping public spaces clean.
