Thiruvananthapuram: The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) has issued a red alert for all coastal districts of Kerala, warning of high waves and a possible swell surge (Kallakkadal) along the coast.
According to the advisory, waves ranging from 1.0 to 1.5 metres are likely along the Kerala coast from 2:30 am on September 26 to 2:30 am on September 28. Coastal areas, particularly low-lying regions, may experience seawater inundation and coastal flooding.
Special caution has been advised in coastal stretches across all nine coastal districts, from Thiruvananthapuram to Kasaragod. Similar warnings have been issued for the coastal areas of Kanyakumari, Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi and Tirunelveli in Tamil Nadu, as well as the Lakshadweep coast.
Fisherfolk and coastal residents have been urged to remain highly vigilant. Small boats and fishing vessels should not be taken into the sea or brought ashore during periods of strong waves. Authorities have also advised avoiding beaches and sea-based recreational activities until the warning is withdrawn.
Fishing vessels should be securely anchored at harbours, while coastal residents have been advised to follow official instructions and exercise caution in areas vulnerable to coastal erosion.
