Students Key to Strengthening India’s Democracy: CEC Gyanesh Kumar

LUCKNOW: Students have a crucial role in strengthening India’s democracy, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar said, stressing the importance of educating young citizens about the electoral process.

Addressing students and teachers at the Election Commission of India’s regional conference on Electoral Literacy Clubs (ELC 2.0) and ECINET in Lucknow, Gyanesh Kumar said students are the future of the nation and must develop a clear understanding of electoral processes and democratic values.

He said informed participation by young and first-time voters is an investment in the future of democracy. Electoral Literacy Clubs will help students understand voter registration, polling, counting and the functioning of the Election Commission.

Under the tagline “Learn Democracy. Lead Democracy,” ELC 2.0 aims to create digitally enabled platforms in schools, colleges and universities, encouraging students to become informed and responsible participants in the democratic process.

Gyanesh Kumar also highlighted the importance of maintaining awareness about the transparency and credibility of India’s electoral system among young citizens.
