Thiruvananthapuram: In view of continuing heavy rainfall and waterlogging in several parts of Kerala, district authorities have declared a holiday for educational institutions in seven districts on Wednesday, August 5.
In Thrissur, the District Collector announced a holiday for all educational institutions, including anganwadis, nurseries, tuition centres, madrasas, Kendriya Vidyalayas, CBSE and ICSE schools, professional colleges and other institutions. The order has been issued under the Disaster Management Act, 2005, as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students amid persistent rain and flooding in low-lying areas.
The district administration clarified that previously scheduled examinations and interviews will be held as planned. Heads of educational institutions have been directed to make necessary arrangements to compensate for the loss of instructional time.
Authorities have also issued a public safety advisory, urging children to stay away from rivers, streams, quarries and waterlogged areas.
Residents have been advised to avoid non-essential travel during periods of heavy rain and those living in landslide-prone or flood-prone areas have been asked to strictly follow the instructions of local authorities and disaster management officials.
Apart from Thrissur, holidays have also been declared for educational institutions in Kasaragod, Wayanad, kannur, Alappuzha, Idukki and Pathanamthitta districts due to the prevailing adverse weather conditions.
