Chennai: DMK president M.K. Stalin on Friday criticised the Tamil Nadu government over alleged irregularities in electricity tariffs, accusing the ruling TVK government of failing to address problems in the power sector.
Stalin claimed that consumers have been facing frequent power cuts and inflated electricity bills since the current government assumed office. Referring to the government’s admission that it had received more than 3.7 lakh complaints related to high electricity charges, he said the issue had become a major concern for the public.
In a post on social media, the former Chief Minister said the state had first witnessed repeated power outages and was now dealing with a tariff crisis. He urged the government to immediately extend the deadline for electricity bill payments until the billing anomalies are resolved.
The remarks come amid growing public concern over electricity charges and power supply in the state.
