Bhubaneswar: The opposition Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and Congress on Thursday criticised Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and senior BJP leaders for visiting New Delhi while large parts of the state continue to battle severe flooding.
Addressing separate press conferences, both parties accused the BJP-led state government of failing to respond effectively to the flood situation, which has affected 20 of Odisha’s 30 districts.
The BJD questioned the timing of the Chief Minister’s visit, alleging that BJP leaders were attending political engagements in the national capital while people across the state were struggling with the impact of continuous heavy rainfall and floods.
The Congress also criticised the government, claiming that it lacked sincerity in handling the disaster and should have prioritised relief and rehabilitation efforts in the flood-affected regions.
The opposition urged the state government to focus on rescue operations, provide immediate assistance to affected families, and ensure timely rehabilitation measures as floodwaters continue to disrupt normal life in several districts.
