1.73 Lakh Illegal Foreigners Identified in Assam, Over 31,700 Repatriated: CM

Guwahati: The Assam government has identified more than 1.72 lakh people as illegal foreigners under the provisions of the Assam Accord, while a little over 31,700 have been repatriated so far, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed the Assembly on Monday.

Responding to a written question raised by AGP MLA Diptimayee Choudhury, the Chief Minister said that 1,72,673 individuals have been declared illegal immigrants in the state to date.

Sarma stated that 31,789 of those identified have been sent back from Assam. However, he did not specify the countries to which they were repatriated or provide further details regarding the deportation process.

The figures were presented in the Assembly as part of the government’s response on the implementation of measures related to the Assam Accord and the detection of illegal immigrants in the state.
