Jammu: A fresh batch of more than 6,700 pilgrims departed from the Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu early Sunday for the Amarnath shrine in the South Kashmir Himalayas under tight security, officials said.
The fourth batch of pilgrims since the commencement of the annual Amarnath Yatra on July 2 included 1,310 women and 22 children. The pilgrims left the base camp in two separate convoys at 3 a.m. and 3:40 a.m.
The annual pilgrimage was formally flagged off from Jammu by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on July 2. Security has been strengthened along the route to ensure the safe movement of devotees to the holy cave shrine.
