Bengaluru: Senior Congress leader D K Shivakumar was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Karnataka on Wednesday, marking a political transition in the state and bringing an end to his prolonged leadership tussle with predecessor Siddaramaiah.
Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot administered the oath of office and secrecy to Shivakumar at Lok Bhavan in Bengaluru. Along with the new Chief Minister, 13 Congress legislators also took oath as ministers in the newly formed Cabinet.
Soon after assuming office, Shivakumar chaired his first Cabinet meeting in the presence of senior Congress leaders, including Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi.
Following the meeting, the Chief Minister announced several youth and student-focused welfare initiatives. These included the introduction of free bus passes for students and the formation of 10,000 Bharat Jodo Yuva Sanghas aimed at promoting leadership qualities among youth and strengthening social harmony.
The announcements are seen as part of the new government’s focus on youth empowerment and educational support in Karnataka.
