The judicial commission appointed by the Kerala government to probe the Mundathikode fireworks unit explosion visited the district on Wednesday and inspected the accident site.
The commission, headed by Justice C.N. Ramachandran Nair, also visited the injured undergoing treatment at Thrissur Medical College Hospital. He interacted with victims Bhavani and Vishnu and inquired about their condition.
District Collector Shikha Surendran and City Police Commissioner Nakul Rajendra Deshmukh accompanied the commission during the hospital visit. Medical College authorities, including the principal, briefed the commission on the treatment and facilities being provided.
After the hospital visit, the team inspected the explosion site at Mundathikode. Officials, including Additional District Magistrate R. Manoj, explained the circumstances of the incident and the rescue operations carried out.
The commission stated that further investigation would proceed as per the terms of reference set by the government. Justice Ramachandran Nair also appreciated the efforts of the district administration and police in coordinating rescue operations and recovering remains from the site swiftly.
