Modi Makes Digital History: First World Leader to Hit 100 Million Followers on Instagram

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has scripted a new chapter in global digital politics by becoming the first world leader to cross the 100 million follower mark on Instagram. The landmark achievement cements his position as the most-followed political leader on the platform.

Since joining Instagram in 2014, Modi’s account has evolved into one of the most dynamic and widely engaged digital spaces among global leaders. Modi’s posts — ranging from policy updates and international visits to personal moments and cultural highlights — have consistently resonated with audiences, especially the youth.

In comparison, US President Donald Trump has 43.2 million followers, less than half of Modi’s tally. Other prominent leaders also trail behind, including Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto (15 million), Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (14.4 million), Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan (11.6 million), and Argentine President Javier Milei (6.4 million).

Back home, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath stands second with around 16 million followers, followed by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi with approximately 12.6 million.

Officials say the milestone reflects Modi’s unparalleled global digital outreach and influence, highlighting how social media has become a powerful tool in shaping modern political leadership and public engagement worldwide.
