Kannur: Tensions flared dramatically at the Kannur railway station on Wednesday as Kerala Health Minister Veena George was injured during a protest staged by KSU activists. The confrontation unfolded amid a black flag demonstration, with protesters allegedly breaking through the police cordon and clashing with the minister.
The minister sustained injuries to her neck and hand during the scuffle. Speaking after the incident, Minister was experiencing severe pain in her arm and was unable to move her neck. Minister was immediately shifted to the district hospital for treatment. From the railway station itself, Veena George contacted the Chief Minister to brief him about the situation.
The minister had reached the station to board a Vande Bharat train to Thiruvananthapuram when the protest erupted. In the aftermath of the incident, she cancelled her scheduled journey. Black flag protests against the minister had been reported at multiple locations across Kannur earlier in the day. The incident has since heightened political tensions in the state, sparking sharp reactions from various quarters.
