Kerala High Court Calls for Screening of The Kerala Story 2, Flags Concerns Over State’s Portrayal

Kochi: In a significant development, the Kerala High Court has ordered a special screening of The Kerala Story 2 after observing that the film’s teaser and trailer appear to portray the State in a misleading manner. The direction came during the hearing of petitions challenging the grant of censor certification to the movie.

Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas remarked that the people of Kerala “live in harmony and uphold secularism,” but noted that the promotional material of the film seems to project a different image. The court expressed concern over whether such depiction could adversely impact the State’s reputation and communal harmony.

The petitions argue that certain elements in the film may misrepresent Kerala’s social and cultural fabric. Taking the concerns seriously, the court decided to personally review the content before proceeding further.

The case will be taken up again after the screening, with the court expected to examine whether the certification process was appropriate and whether any legal intervention is warranted. The development has sparked fresh debate around cinema, censorship, and the responsibility of filmmakers in portraying sensitive subjects.
