Pathanamthitta: In a story that has moved an entire state, young Alin Sherin Abraham has become a symbol of hope and humanity. Even in death, she gave the gift of life to several children through organ donation. The brave little girl will be laid to rest on Sunday at Nedungadappally St. Thomas Church.
Alin had been undergoing treatment at Amrita Hospital after suffering critical injuries in a road accident on February 5. Brain death was confirmed on February 13. In an extraordinary act of courage and compassion, her grieving parents chose to donate her organs, transforming their personal tragedy into a life-saving miracle for others.
Her mortal remains were taken to Kottayam Medical College Hospital for postmortem procedures and later moved to a private hospital in Mallappally. The body will be handed over to the family Sunday morning, with public viewing at her residence until 2 p.m. The funeral service will take place at 3:30 p.m.
A specially arranged Green Corridor enabled swift transportation of her organs from Kochi to Thiruvananthapuram, covering 211 kilometers in just 3 hours and 15 minutes — a remarkable coordination effort by authorities across Kerala.
Her two kidneys were allocated to a child undergoing treatment at the SAT Hospital under Thiruvananthapuram Medical College. Her liver was transported to KIMS Hospital, where it will be transplanted into a six-month-old baby. The heart valve was sent to Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology, while her corneas were retained for transplantation at the same Kochi hospital where she had been treated.
Hospital staff paid tribute to Alin with a Guard of Honour before her final journey — a deeply emotional farewell to one of Kerala’s youngest organ donors.
The accident occurred near Pallom Borma Junction on MC Road while the family was traveling from Kottayam to Thiruvalla. She was initially treated at hospitals in Changanassery and Thiruvalla before being shifted to Kochi for advanced care.
Though her life was brief, Alin’s legacy will live on — in the children who now have a second chance at life and in the countless hearts inspired by her final, selfless gift.
