AI-Powered Brain MRI Tool Predicts Brain Age, Cancer Survival and Disease Risk

In a groundbreaking advance for medical science, researchers from Mass General Brigham and Harvard Medical School have developed an artificial intelligence model capable of extracting remarkable insights from routine brain MRI scans. The innovative system, known as BrainIAC, can estimate a person’s brain age, assess dementia risk, identify tumor-related genetic mutations, and even predict survival outcomes in brain cancer patients—all from a single scan. Trained on nearly 49,000 MRI images, the model represents a major shift from traditional single-purpose AI tools, offering a versatile and highly adaptable approach to neurological diagnosis. Published in Nature Neuroscience, the research signals a new era in precision medicine, where AI-enhanced imaging could enable earlier detection, personalized treatment strategies, and improved patient outcomes across a range of serious brain disorders.
