Kerala Set for Major Rail Boost: Three Amrit Bharat Express Trains and New Passenger Service to Be Flagged Off by PM Modi

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala is poised for a significant upgrade in rail connectivity with the announcement of four new train services, including three Amrit Bharat Express trains, bringing faster and more modern travel options to the State. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will flag off these new services during his visit to Thiruvananthapuram next week.

Of the six new trains to be inaugurated by the Prime Minister, four are allotted to Kerala, while two will serve Tamil Nadu. The new Amrit Bharat Express trains for Kerala will operate on the Thiruvananthapuram–Tambaram, Thiruvananthapuram–Hyderabad, and Nagercoil–Mangaluru routes, enhancing long-distance connectivity to key cities across South and Central India. Kerala will also get a much-awaited Guruvayur–Thrissur passenger service.

The two Amrit Bharat Express trains allotted to Tamil Nadu are on the Nagercoil–Charlapalli and Coimbatore–Dhanbad routes.

In another major development, the Railways have approved the electrification of the Shoranur–Nilambur line, improving efficiency and sustainability on the route. The Prime Minister will also inaugurate 11 railway stations redeveloped under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. In Kerala, Kuttippuram, Changanassery, and Shoranur stations have been upgraded with modern passenger amenities under the scheme.

The Guruvayur–Thrissur passenger train will run daily, offering convenient travel for pilgrims and commuters alike. The service will depart Guruvayur at 6.10 p.m. and reach Thrissur at 6.50 p.m., with the return journey leaving Thrissur at 8.10 p.m. and arriving at Guruvayur at 8.45 p.m.

With new trains, upgraded stations, and electrified routes, Kerala’s rail network is set to witness a transformative phase, promising better connectivity, comfort, and speed for passengers.
