No Issue With Kerala SIR — 90% Forms Already Distributed, Election Commission Tells Supreme Court

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has assured the Supreme Court that Kerala’s ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list is progressing smoothly, stating that 90% of enumeration forms have already been distributed.

The clarification comes amid the Kerala government’s plea to defer the SIR, arguing that conducting the revision alongside the December 9–11 local body elections would overburden administrative machinery and disrupt election preparations.

Rejecting these concerns, the Election Commission said the SIR exercise is “well under control”, with sufficient staff deployed and timelines firmly on track. The Commission also questioned the state’s request for postponement, asserting that there is no administrative or legal justification to halt the process midway.

The SIR, which runs from November 4 to December 4, is intended to update and clean the state’s electoral rolls ahead of the polls.

The Supreme Court has issued notice on the petition and is expected to hear the matter soon.
