PM Modi Shares Glimpses of His Speech at Bhutan King’s 70th Birthday Celebration in Thimphu

Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared highlights from his address at the grand celebration marking the 70th birthday of His Majesty Jigme Singye Wangchuck, the Fourth King of Bhutan, held at the Changlimithang Celebration Ground in Thimphu.

In his speech, the Prime Minister praised Bhutan’s visionary leadership and its global reputation for prioritizing Gross National Happiness, a concept introduced by the Fourth King. He commended Bhutan’s remarkable achievements in sustainability, peace, and human development, calling the nation a “shining example of balance between tradition and progress.”

“India and Bhutan are bound not just by borders, but by shared values, emotions, and aspirations for peace and prosperity,” Modi said, highlighting the deep spiritual and cultural ties between the two nations.

Referring to the recent car blast in Delhi, Modi expressed grief over the tragedy and thanked the Bhutanese people for their prayers and solidarity during the event. “The entire nation is deeply pained by the horrific incident. India will ensure justice for the victims,” PM assured.

The Prime Minister also reaffirmed India’s commitment to strengthening ties with Bhutan in energy, infrastructure, and connectivity, especially through expanding hydropower cooperation, a key pillar of the bilateral partnership.

Calling the occasion a celebration of friendship and shared destiny, Modi said, “As Bhutan celebrates its great monarch, India stands proudly with our closest neighbor in joy, partnership, and peace.”

The event, attended by Bhutan’s royal family, dignitaries, and thousands of citizens, reflected the ever-growing warmth and trust between India and Bhutan.
