WhatsApp is taking user safety to the next level with a brand-new security upgrade designed to protect accounts from hacking and targeted cyberattacks. The upcoming feature, spotted in the latest beta version and reported by WABetaInfo, introduces a powerful new option under Privacy > Advanced called “Strict Account Settings.”
This cutting-edge feature allows users to lock down their accounts like never before. Once enabled, it automatically blocks media and attachments from unknown senders, limits calls and messages from suspicious sources, and prevents unauthorized changes to account settings. WhatsApp, however, has noted that users may experience a slight drop in call or message quality while the feature is active — a small trade-off for maximum security.
But that’s not all. When you turn on “Strict Account Settings,” WhatsApp will auto-activate several other privacy protections, including:
- Blocking unknown callers
- Restricting group invitations
- Disabling link previews
- Sending alerts for encryption code changes
- Enabling two-step verification
- Hiding your personal information from strangers
While many of these tools already exist separately, this new mode brings them all together — offering complete protection in a single tap.
Cybersecurity experts believe the feature will be especially beneficial for journalists, activists, and political figures, who face a higher risk of digital surveillance or hacking attempts.
WhatsApp has not yet revealed an official launch date for the feature, but it’s expected to roll out to all Android and iOS users soon after the beta testing phase concludes.
With “Strict Account Settings,” WhatsApp is sending a strong message: your privacy is not optional — it’s priority.
