75% Attendance Now Mandatory: CBSE’s New Rule Bars Board Exam Entry for Defaulters

New Delhi – The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued a firm directive requiring all Class 10 and 12 students to maintain at least 75% attendance during the 2025–26 academic year to be eligible for the 2026 board exams. Aimed at reinforcing academic discipline and regular classroom engagement, the board has made it clear that no student will be allowed to appear for the exams without meeting this benchmark—unless covered under specific exceptions.

CBSE will allow relaxations only in genuine cases such as medical emergencies, family bereavement, or participation in recognized national/international sports events—and only upon submission of valid documentary proof. For medical leave, a certificate from a government-registered doctor is mandatory, and documents must be submitted immediately after returning to school.

The board has also warned against any manipulation of attendance records, stating that schools attempting to falsify data will face strict penalties. Unauthorized absences without a formal written request will be treated seriously.

CBSE has instructed schools to notify students and parents about the rule and to issue written warnings via registered post or email if attendance falls short. With this move, CBSE aims to curb absenteeism and ensure students remain consistently engaged in academic activities throughout the year.
