Alappuzha: The excitement of Kerala’s iconic snake boat race is set to return as the 72nd edition of the Nehru Trophy Boat Race will be held on August 22 in Alappuzha.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the Nehru Trophy Boat Race Society executive committee, chaired by District Collector Alex Varghese, who is also the chairman of the society. The meeting was held at the Collectorate Conference Hall.
The committee noted that conducting the spectacular water festival during the Onam celebrations would make it easier for a larger number of spectators, including tourists and expatriates, to witness the grand event.
Officials also decided to bring in more sponsors for this year’s race and complete preparations well in advance. The sponsorship categories and overall budget will be finalized in the next meeting.
Additionally, the society plans to organize more charitable activities under its leadership. The Nehru Trophy Boat Race, one of Kerala’s most celebrated sporting and cultural events, is expected to attract thousands of visitors and add vibrant energy to the Onam festivities.
