5.3-Magnitude Earthquake Shakes Telangana; Hyderabad Residents Feel Tremors

A powerful earthquake of magnitude 5.3 struck Telangana’s Mulugu district early on December 4, 2024, at 7:27 AM IST. Tremors were felt across Hyderabad and nearby areas, sparking alarm among residents.

The National Centre for Seismology confirmed the quake’s epicenter at 18.44°N latitude and 80.24°E longitude, with a depth of 40 kilometers. Fortunately, no immediate reports of casualties or major property damage have been reported.

While Telangana is in Seismic Zone II, a region generally associated with low seismic activity, the unexpected intensity of this quake has raised concerns, prompting authorities to remain vigilant for aftershocks and assess potential risks.
