32 Airports Shut Amid India-Pakistan Tensions; Civilian Flights Suspended Till May 15

New Delhi, May 10, 2025: In a major security move prompted by rising military tensions between India and Pakistan, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has suspended civilian flight operations at32 airports across northern and western India until 5:29 AM on May 15.

The decision comes after India’s May 7 airstrikes on terror camps and Pakistan’s retaliatory shelling along the border, escalating fears of further conflict. The affected airports include strategic hubs such as Srinagar, Jammu, Amritsar, Chandigarh, and Bhuj — all critical to both civilian and defense operations.

To ensure aviation safety, the DGCA has issued NOTAMs (Notices to Airmen), and 25 key Air Traffic Service (ATS) routes in the Delhi and Mumbai flight regions have also been temporarily shut down.

Major carriers, including Air India and IndiGo, have cancelled or rescheduled flights, offering waivers and refunds to affected passengers. Authorities have urged travellers to stay updated via airline notifications and official government advisories.

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) and DGCA are monitoring the situation round-the-clock and will issue further instructions as required. As military operations and border tensions remain unpredictable, aviation regulators emphasize that these precautions are necessary to protect civilian lives and maintain operational readiness.
