Mumbai: In a surprising turn of events, model-turned-actor Poonam Pandey issued a public apology after her team falsely declared her death on Instagram, stating she had succumbed to cervical cancer at the age of 32. Pandey, known for her controversial online presence, expressed regret for causing panic and shock among her followers.

Addressing the situation in a video posted on Saturday, Pandey stated, “Hi everyone, it’s Poonam here. I am sorry I have caused this tear, and I am sorry to those whom I have hurt.” She went on to clarify that her intention behind the shocking announcement was to draw attention to cervical cancer and ignite a conversation about the often-overlooked disease.

“My intention? To shock everyone into the conversation that we are not talking enough about, which is cervical cancer. Yes, I faked my demise. Extreme, I know,” Pandey admitted candidly. Despite the unconventional approach, she emphasized that the goal was to bring awareness to a disease that quietly takes lives.

Pandey, in the video, highlighted the urgent need for the spotlight on cervical cancer and expressed pride in sparking discussions about the ailment. She asserted, “But suddenly we are all talking about cervical cancer, aren’t we? It’s a disease that silently takes your life.”

Earlier, the 32-year-old had debunked the false claims in an Instagram Reel, confirming her vitality and using the opportunity to educate followers about cervical cancer. “I feel compelled to share something significant with you all – I am here, alive. Cervical Cancer didn’t claim me,” she wrote in the caption of the video.

On Friday, Pandey’s team had posted the erroneous news of her demise on Instagram, creating a wave of shock and condolences from fans. The incident has sparked discussions not only about the unconventional approach to raising awareness but also about the importance of responsible communication, particularly on sensitive matters such as life-threatening illnesses.
