A theatre performer was taken into custody by Kerala Police after they found 56 grammes of the synthetic drug MDMA in a leased flat in Kochi’s Thrikkakkara neighbourhood.
The actress Anju Krishna, who is from Kazhakkottam in Thiruvananthapuram, was detained from inside apartment, according to the police, but her Kasaragod-born partner Shameer fled.
A “Yodhavu” (Warrior) unit set up by Kochi City Police Commissioner to combat drug usage discovered the narcotic during a routine inspection.
Shameer fled the third-floor apartment when the police arrived at the building at Thoppil Junction in Unichira. The team grew suspicious when they saw the teenager jump over the building’s fence to get away, so they carefully searched the apartment he lived with Anju, and the MDMA was taken.
According to the police, large amounts of MDMA were brought to the flat from Bengaluru and dispensed there. According to the authorities, Anju and Shameer rented the flat last month while pretending to be a married couple.
When Anju and Shameer first met three years ago, she was working as an actor at a theatre, she told the police. An officer stated that a search has been started for the Kasaragod native.
