Refugees continue to camp at US border despite zero-degree temperature

Dozens of migrants camped in tents outside the US-Mexico border in Ciudad Juarez.

Along the border, refugees camped in partly sparse conditions despite freezing temperatures of around zero degrees Celsius.

According to local media, on Thursday morning municipal authorities in Juarez began dismantling tents that had been abandoned by migrants who had voluntarily surrendered to United States immigration authorities. More than a thousand people remain at the site.

According to media reports, migrants began crossing the Rio Grande last night to surrender to US authorities in the hope of obtaining political asylum, although restrictions on entry for Venezuelans remain in force. The people are hoping to get political asylum in the US.
