On Thursday, the Thiruvananthapuram Additional Sessions Court declared Arun guilty of killing a woman in her 20s in 2021. Arun was detained after fatally stabbing Nedumangad resident Suryagayatri in front of her parents.
According to the court, the severity of the punishment will be revealed on Friday.
On August 30, 2021, at Uzhappakonam near Nedumangad, Arun, a Peyadu native, fatally stabbed Suryagayathri 33 times in front of her parents after she declined his marriage proposal.
Suryagayatri allegedly attacked Arun after he requested her to give back the gold and cash he had given her, according to the defence. She killed herself with a knife when he resisted the assault.
However, the prosecution used the woman’s post-mortem report, which revealed 33 wounds, and the attack on her parents when they attempted to halt the stabbing as evidence to refute the defence’s claims.
