MV Govindan selected as Kerala CPI(M) state secretary

Minister MV Govindan was chosen to fill Kodiyeri Balakrishnan’s vacant position as state secretary. General Secretary Sitaram Yechury, Polit Bureau members Prakash Karat, Pinarayi Vijayan, MA Baby, and A. Vijayaraghavan participated in the state committee meeting when the decision was made. EP Jayarajan presided. MV Govindan, the Minister of Local Self-Government, is a current representative on the CPIM Central Committee.

Kodiyeri Balakrishnan resigned as secretary due to personal health issues. As part of choosing a new secretary, CPIM leaders met Kodiyeri, who was on rest, at the AKG apartment in the morning. Visits to Kodiyeri were made by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, General Secretary Sitaram Yechury, and PB member MA Baby. After the state secretariat meeting was ended, the leaders went to Kodiyeri’s apartment. The state committee will then choose the next secretary.

Govindan becomes a KSYF worker at CPIM. Then he was named KSYF’s district president. He left his position as a sports instructor at Morazha School and started working full-time for CPIM. He held positions as the District President of the Farmers Workers Union in Kannur, the District Secretary of the Tribal Welfare Committee, the Chairman of the Malabar Tourism Society, and a member of the CPIM State Committee.

He served as the state president and secretary of DYFI in the 1980s. When EP Jayarajan was wounded and receiving treatment, M.V. Govindan was in charge of the district secretary. He has also served as the district secretary for Ernakulam.

He is the second of K. Kunjampu of Morazha and Madhavi’s six children. His children are Shyamjith and Kutan, and his wife is PK Shyamala, a former Thaliparambu Municipal Council chairperson.
