Kerala Government Approves ₹778 Crore Sabarimala Master Plan for Comprehensive Development

The Kerala government has approved a comprehensive ₹778.17 crore development plan for Sabarimala, aimed at enhancing facilities while preserving the temple’s cultural and ecological significance. The master plan, which will be implemented in three phases, focuses on improving the pilgrimage experience for millions of devotees.

Phases of the Plan:

First Phase (2025-2028): ₹600.47 crore
Second Phase (2028-2033): ₹100.02 crore
Third Phase (2034-2039): ₹77.68 crore

Key Areas of Development:

Sannidhanam: The main temple complex will be divided into eight zones to improve crowd management and preserve the iconic ‘Makaravilakku’ view. Two open plazas will be added for better crowd control.
Pampa: The base area for pilgrims will receive an investment of ₹207.48 crore, with significant funds allocated to both the first and second phases.
Truck Route: The development of the route leading to the temple will cost ₹47.97 crore, aimed at improving accessibility for pilgrims.
The master plan is designed to balance environmental preservation with enhanced facilities, ensuring a smoother and more spiritual experience for those visiting the holy site.

Additional Cabinet Approval: In a related decision, the Kerala Cabinet has also greenlit the formation of a Local Self-Government Reform Commission, headed by B. Ashok IAS. The commission will focus on reforming existing laws and guidelines in the Local Self-Government Department, prioritizing ease of doing business and sustainable development practices.

This multifaceted approach highlights the state’s commitment to creating a modern, accessible, and environmentally responsible pilgrimage destination while fostering overall growth and sustainability.
