Iraq: Gas explosion leaves at least 4 dead, 26 injured in Duhok

A gas leak has caused an explosion near a bakery and students dormitory in Duhok, in northern Iraq, on Monday, killing at least four people and injuring 26 others.

Civil defence units rushed to the blast site to put out the fire and treat the wounded after the explosion.

“When the civil defence teams arrived at the scene, it was found that the gas leak was the most serious case of an explosion in one of the buildings, 4 people were killed and 27 were injured with light and severe injuries were hospitalized,” said Pewar Abdel Aziz, Lieutenant-Colonel and one of the civil defence officers.

On Thursday night, an explosion occurred at a three-storey house in northern Iraq’s Sulaymaniyah province due to a gas leak, leaving 15 people dead and 12 injured.
