India is the unchallenged leader in the sector, producing about 60% of all vaccines used worldwide, according to finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Wednesday.
Sajjan Singh Yadav, additional expenditure secretary, wrote the book “India’s Vaccine Growth Story – From Cowpox to Vaccine Maitry,” which Sitharaman used to officially launch it abroad. Yadav said that the book “captures the centuries-long journey of the vaccines’ growth.”
“India has contributed remarkably over the years. India produces around 60% of the vaccines used worldwide, according to Sitharaman.
The minister claimed that every individual in India is receiving two doses of Covid.
As part of the ongoing national immunisation campaign, 2.08 billion doses of the Covid vaccine have been given out in India.
