HC orders to shut down illegal religious settings

High Court orders closure of places of worship and prayer halls operating without permission. The High Court’s important ruling denied the petition from the Nurul Islamic Cultural Group of Malappuram to permit the conversion of a commercial building into a place of worship for Muslims.

When evaluating requests for new places of worship, the distance between comparable places of worship should be standardised. The state administration was also told by the High Court to issue a circular forbidding the conversion of structures into places of worship.

According to Justice PV Kunjikrishnan’s order, permission should be given in such applications only in very rare cases based on police and intelligence reports.
