Petrol will now cost ₹ 5 less and diesel ₹ 3 less in Maharashtra as the state cabinet decided today. The tax cut needed for this will cost the state ₹ 6,000 crore a year, but it will bring down overall inflation, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said while announcing the decision.

This comes a week after Mr Shinde announced that he would cut the Value Added Tax (VAT) on fuel.
