First monkeypox case confirmed in Indonesia: Health ministry

The health ministry announced on Saturday that Indonesia has officially confirmed its first case of monkeypox.

As of August 5, neighbouring Singapore had confirmed 15 cases of monkeypox since last month. Thailand and the Philippines have also reported cases elsewhere in Southeast Asia.

More than 40,000 confirmed cases of monkeypox, including a few fatal cases, have been reported in more than 80 countries where the virus is not endemic. As a result, the World Health Organization has declared a global health emergency.

Chinese woman in Delhi posing as monk from Nepal could be a spy: Police

According to the police, a Chinese woman suspected of spying has been detained in a Tibetan refugee camp in north Delhi. According to the authorities, her identity documents listed her name as Dolma Lama and her residence as Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. Her real name is Cai Ruo, they added. According to the police, she has been residing at Majnu Ka Tilla, a Tibetan refugee community close to Delhi University’s north campus that is also well-liked by visitors. She has been going about her daily life as a Buddhist monk, complete with short hair and the characteristic deep red robe. Cai Ruo arrived in India in 2019 with a Chinese passport, according to the police, who claimed to have checked her records with the FRRO. She allegedly told the police that some Communist Party leaders in China planned to assassinate her during questioning. She is trilingual, speaking Nepali, Mandarin, and English. She was detained by the Delhi Police Special Cell, who stated that they are looking into the matter.
