A top official confirmed that Goa Police detained a drug dealer and a restaurant owner on Saturday in connection with the  murder of BJP leader and actress Sonali Phogat.

“In this case, we detained the proprietor of Curlies restaurant as well as one drug dealer this morning. We’re asking them questions,” Jivba Dalvi, a deputy superintendent of police, told IANS.

The development comes a day after Sukwinder Singh and Sudhir Sangwan, Phogat’s personal assistants, were detained on Friday.

According to sources, the police have reportedly questioned the cab drivers who the Sangwan and Phogat hired for their trip to the restaurant and other locations in Anjuna.

According to Inspector General of Police Omvir Singh Bishnoi, Sangwan has admitted to the crime, saying that after arriving in Goa, he and Sukwinder took Phogat to Curlies under the pretence of going out to party and he mixed an unpleasant substance in the victim’s water and made him drink it.

“She felt queasy and sick in the restaurant after drinking the water. Sangwan and Sukwinder later took her to the hotel where they were staying before taking her to St. Antony’s Hospital in Anjuna, where she was later pronounced dead “Speaking to reporters on Friday, he said.

On August 22, Phogat arrived in Goa and checked into a hotel in Anjuna.

On Monday night, she experienced unease. The following morning, she was taken to the St. Anthony hospital in Anjuna, where she was pronounced dead.
