The forest department would file a case against the contractors in the incident where birds died after a tree was cut down for the national highway in Malappuram. The Wildlife Protection Act has the case registered.
The preliminary conclusion is that more than fifty nestlings belonging to Schedule 4 have lost their lives. According to the forest department, the contractor has even violated the strict instructions that trees should be cut only after the eggs have hatched and the chicks can fly. The forest department will take statements from local residents today.
