‘Blood on their hands!’ – Activists demand climate justice for Global South at COP27

Dozens of climate activists protested against burning fossil fuels in Sharm el-Sheikh on Wednesday, demanding climate justice for countries of the Global South.

“Unless they commit and come up with final solutions to phase out fossil fuels now, people in my community, people in India and Indonesia, in the global south will keep dying every second. And this is blood on their hands”, an activist stated, while protesters chanted slogans demanding a limit to global temperature rise to 1.5 degrees above pre-industrial levels..

Representatives from over 190 countries attend COP27, with discussions focused on reducing greenhouse gas emissions, the transition to green energy and funding for climate action.

Heads of State, ministers and negotiators, as well as climate activists and representatives from civil society and business, look to build on the pledges of past conferences and focus on achieving the legally binding targets of the 2015 Paris Agreement. COP 27 continues until November 18.
