According to data released by the Uttarakhand emergency operation centre, 203 pilgrims have died since the start of the Char Dham yatra on May 3. The death toll is predominantly due to cardiac arrest and other health ailments.
Of the 203 pilgrims, 97 pilgrims died on the Kedarnath Yatra route, 51 in Badrinath Dham, 13 in Gangotri and 42 in Yamunotri.
The number of pilgrims who have visited the Char Dhams since May 3 crossed the 25 lakh mark, according to the data. However, the number of visitors has been declining in the past week.
With an unusual rush of pilgrims coming to Char Dham yatra this year, the Uttarakhand government had earlier issued an advisory for the pilgrims and asked them to get themselves medically examined before they start the arduous trek to the Himalayan temples.
