12-year-old girl in critical condition despite receiving three anti-rabies shots

A 12-year-old girl who was hurt in a stray dog attack in Pathanamthitta is still in critical condition. Following a decline in her health, she was yesterday admitted to the Kottayam Medical College’s intensive care unit. Samples of the child’s body were sent to the Pune virology lab for in-depth analysis.

Abhirami, a local of Mandapuzha in Perunad, was attacked by a street dog two weeks ago while she was on her way to buy milk. The street dog bit the child nine times.

The Pathanamthitta General Hospital provided the first dose of the rabies vaccination. The Perunad Family Health Center also provided two vaccines. But over time, the child’s condition got worse.
